Cantà in Cumpagnia - Camerata Figarella

New album from the Camerata Figarella ensemble: Cantà in Cumpagnia.

On one side, four wind instruments at the crossroads of the ancient and modern worlds: William Dongois on the cornett, heir to the tribune of Saint Mark's in Venice; Stefan Legée on the sackbut; Fausto Sierakowski, specialist in the art of Ottoman maqam; and Ange Sierakowski, clarinetist in a prestigious Berlin ensemble.

Together, they re-engage with the ancient art of diminution, an improvised ornamentation that transforms melodic and polyphonic material.

On the other, four voices: Italian baritone Enea Sorini, specialist in Renaissance singing from Umbria and Tuscany, and three traditional Corsican singers, Jean-Étienne Langianni, Michel Paoli, and Daniel Gonet, living bearers of the traditions of paghjella and cantu sacru.

Between these two choirs, there is no imitation: only dialogue. The pre-Baroque madrigal and the Tuscan frottola respond to the polyphony of Corsican Holy Week; Ottoman modal improvisation slips into the silences of sacred song and the learned repertoire of the 16th century.

This is the soundscape that Camerata Figarella wishes to present here.

Following, like Ariadne's thread, that of the Renaissance in its primary sense, the fruit of perpetual renewal, with ancestral roots, like a fragile Anthemis flower slipping between old flagstones, witnesses to too many wounds that spring will have to heal.
