Le Malade imaginaire tells the daily life of Argan, a wealthy bourgeois convinced he is seriously ill. Obsessed with treatments and doctors, he decides to marry his daughter Angélique to Thomas Diafoirus, a ridiculous young doctor, in order to have a dedicated practitioner at home. However, Angélique loves Cléante, whom she believes to be a music teacher. Around them gravitates a gallery of comical characters: Béline, the self-interested second wife, Béralde, the reasonable brother, and especially Toinette, the lively and clear-sighted servant. To open Argan's eyes, Toinette disguises herself as a doctor and pushes medical absurdity to the extreme. Little by little, the truth comes out, self-interested plans fail, and love triumphs.
