Emerged at the end of the 19th century, Choro blends catchy Afro-Brazilian rhythms with virtuoso melodies influenced by traditional European music (polka, waltz, scottish…).
Usually played in "roda", choro literally means "weeping", "lamentation", which is reflected in the joyful saudade inherent in these melodies, like the mythical piece "Carinhoso".
