About — The artist
Behemoth is a Polish blackened death metal band from Gdańsk. Formed in 1991, the band is considered to have played a significant role in the emergence of the Polish underground extreme metal scene. Most of Behemoth's albums focus on satanic themes, with references to authors such as Aleister Crowley, John Milton, and William Blake.
Since the late 1990s, the band has adopted a traditional black metal style, with lyrics written by vocalist Nergal and Krzysztof Azarewicz. Following the release of the album Satanica in 1999, the band established its presence on the death metal scene. Although Behemoth is categorised as death, black, or thrash metal, Nergal mentions that he does not like the band being categorised.
