Chantal Akerman was a Belgian filmmaker, born on 6 June 1950 in Etterbeek, Belgium, and who died on 5 October 2015 in the 20th arrondissement of Paris.
Considered one of the leading figures of modern cinema and a pioneer of contemplative cinema, she exerted significant influence, notably on Gus Van Sant, Todd Haynes, and Michael Haneke.
