Étienne Daho

Étienne Daho, born on 14 January 1956 in Oran (French Algeria), is a French singer-songwriter, actor, and producer.

Emerging from the Rennes rock scene of the very early 1980s, he achieved success in France with pop tracks (Le Grand Sommeil, Week-end à Rome, Tombé pour la France...), a musical genre of which he became one of the French benchmarks with the albums Pop Satori (1986), Pour nos vies martiennes (1988), and Paris ailleurs (1991).

In the late 1990s, he chose to reduce his media exposure but continued to enjoy both public and critical success: Victoire de la musique for pop-rock album for L'Invitation in 2007, Grand Prix SACEM for Les Chansons de l'innocence retrouvée in 2013. He also received an Honorary Victoire at the Victoires de la musique 2018, the Grande Médaille de la chanson française 2021 awarded by the Académie française, and the Grand Prix Spécial de la Sacem 2024.

Étienne Daho has also collaborated with a multitude of French and international artists such as Jacques Dutronc, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Alain Bashung, Françoise Hardy, Daniel Darc, Astrud Gilberto, Maïwenn, Christophe, Saint Étienne, Jane Birkin, Air, Brigitte Fontaine, Jacno, Jeanne Moreau, Bill Pritchard, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Philippe Katerine, Vanessa Paradis, Catherine Deneuve, Dani, Lio, Lou Doillon, Dominique A, Debbie Harry, and Marianne Faithfull.
