About — The place

The Bibliothèque Mazarine, commonly known as La Mazarine, is the oldest public library in France.

Located on Quai de Conti, in the Monnaie district of the 6th arrondissement of Paris, it functions as a "major scientific and literary establishment library," placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and administratively attached to the Institut de France. Its collections, supplemented over time, originally came from the personal library of Cardinal Mazarin (1602-1661).
