Curator: Maëlle Dault Irene Abello was born in Bogotá, Colombia in 1995. She graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2021. She lives in Paris and works in Bobigny (Le Wonder). She works with ephemeral, sometimes barely perceptible natural phenomena, which she treats as materials to sculpt. Through minimal gestures, she crystallises the physical transformations of matter and transposes our perceptive experiences into installations, photographs, and videos. Her pieces thus invite us to pay close attention to the elusive variations of reality that manifest in our daily lives. At a time when climate change is disrupting millions of lives and forcing entire populations into exile, the forces of nature are manifesting with unprecedented intensity. Irene Abello's work draws on this shifting and unpredictable material. By capturing the metamorphoses of water, air, light, or fire, the artist gives form to what usually escapes the eye. Her works thus reveal the fragility of natural balances and invite us to consider, in the detail of an almost imperceptible transformation, the great upheavals of our world. Where climate catastrophes constitute the visible symptoms of a nature saturated by the excesses of our system, Irene Abello's work explores its more subtle signs, making attention an experience that is both poetic and political.
